SSYC Skippers, the boat owners, host other members on both day and overnight outings. The day raft ups are a great way for new boaters to learn about boat handling and to meet other members. During Monday meetings, the skippers will “announce” where they are going and members can sign on as crew. Popular destinations include Port Madison, Eagle Harbor or Blakely Harbor. In the summer, some skippers anchor in coves on Lake Washington to socialize.
Wherever the location, Seattle Singles boat owners anchor, tie up together and then go boat-hopping. The SSYC raft ups are a floating picnic with food, drink, music and great conversations. Everyone contributes to the food and libations. On sunny afternoons, the kayaks and dinghies are launched for spirited races around the raft up.
In addition to raft ups, skippers invite members to go crabbing, compete in sailboat races, participate in the annual Seafair Pirates’ Landing on Alki, as well as sail and cruise on Puget Sound and Lake Washington.
The Club also sponsors two races annually. See details in links above.
SSYC also plans overnight trips and events almost every month. These weekend events are usually within driving distance for members; others are invited to travel on skippers’ boats. Whatever the mode of transportation, the social activity is lively! Themed events include: a Chowder Fest cook off, Bites on Boats, Christmas Ship parade, and Pirates’ cruisers weekend.
Weekend boating destinations are scheduled for all over Puget Sound—Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Brownsville, Edmonds, Port Orchard, Des Moines, Bainbridge Island, Kingston, Langley, Port Ludlow and the Port Townsend area. One favorite trip is the annual whale watching weekend out of Langley, followed by a potluck and dancing.
